چکیده
Analyzing the dynamical state of nearby young massive star clusters is essential understanding cluster formation and evolution during their earliest stages. In this work we analyze stellar gas kinematics Westerlund 2 (Wd2) using data from integral field unit MUSE complement them with proper motions Gaia DR2. Radio emission from the massive stars in the Galactic Super Star Cluster Westerlund 1
Aims. Current mass-loss rate estimates imply that main sequence line-driven winds are not sufficient to strip away the H-rich envelope to yield Wolf-Rayet (WR) stars. The rich transitional population of the young massive cluster Westerlund 1 (Wd 1) provides an ideal laboratory to observe and constrain mass-loss processes throughout the transitional phase of stellar evolution. Methods. We presen...
متن کاملOn the massive stellar population of the super star cluster Westerlund 1
We present new spectroscopic and photometric observations of the young Galactic open cluster Westerlund 1 (Wd 1) that reveal a unique population of massive evolved stars. We identify ∼200 cluster members and present spectroscopic classifications for ∼25% of these. We find that all stars so classified are unambiguously post-Main Sequence objects, consistent with an apparent lack of an identifiab...
متن کاملAnatomy of a Young Massive Star Cluster : NGC 1569 - B ⋆
We present new H-band echelle spectra, obtained with the NIRSPEC spectrograph at Keck II, for the massive star cluster " B " in the nearby dwarf irregular galaxy NGC 1569. From spectral synthesis and equivalent width measurements we obtain abundances and abundance patterns. We derive an Fe abundance of [Fe/H]=−0.63 ± 0.08, a super-solar [α/Fe] abundance ratio of +0.31 ± 0.09, and an O abundance...
متن کاملThe very rich massive post - main - sequence star population of the open cluster Westerlund 1
We report the discovery of a population of Wolf-Rayet stars in the young Galactic open cluster Westerlund 1. In an incomplete shallow spectro-scopic survey, we find six nitrogen-rich (WN) and five carbon-rich (WC) WR stars. We also confirm the presence of a large population of yellow supergiants, some of which are candidate hypergiants. Given this population, Westerlund 1 is likely to be one of...
متن کاملThe massive binary population of the starburst cluster Westerlund 1 ∗
We present initial results from a long-baseline radial velocity survey for massive binaries in the cluster Westerlund 1. Four systems are examined: the dust-producing WC binary W239, the double-lined eclipsing binary W13, and the single-lined B0 supergiants W43a and W3003. Finally, the evolutionary implications for the population of massive stars in Westerlund 1 are discussed.
